Prevent Abduction - Save Ourselves (A Call for Help)

Why Does this have to happen?

My stomach gets sick and my mind races when I see or read these reoccurring stories. I
can’t begin to imagine the anguish these people are suffering.

Today’s Top Story…

These horrible stories surface everyday. A loved one vanishes. A friend or family member
helplessly tries to find or contact the person. Crucial hours pass by and the authorities
are contacted. More time passes. The local media is contacted. More time passes. If the
story is sensational enough to garner ratings, the story will reach the national news.
How much more time has passed? All this time and energy is spent after this precious life
goes missing. Chances are an abduction has occurred.

This short span of time after the person goes missing is essential in raising the odds of
getting a loved one back, alive. Those minutes and hours are gone forever. The poor
family wants their loved one back but they are only able to rely on the police and/or
media outlets to help erase this nightmare. Police, friends and volunteers search by
vehicle, helicopter and on foot for any clues that may lead them to the victim who was
in the wrong place at the wrong time. The chances are extremely slim that their loved
one will be found and returned safe. All this activity is a reactive way of dealing with
such a crisis. The energy and focus should be channeled into preventing this type of
catastrophe

“Just Google it”

Technology today is amazing. We can track weather patterns, send people to space,
cure impotence, and transplant a human heart. Our communication system is getting so
sophisticated that we are able to talk to one another via the phone, email, text, video,
webcam at any time of day, anywhere in the world. We can take pictures and send that
photo to a device on the other side of the earth in an instant. We can control video
cameras and recording devices from a computer. We can remotely, control our home
computer from the office as well as control our office computer from home. We carry
mobile storage devices, mobile computers, mobile video players and of course mobile
phones. In most cases, all these items are all in one device. We drive in our cars and a
GPS device speaks to us and tells us when to turn. It even tells us if we missed a turn
and explains how to backtrack. We can use our computer to jump on Google Earth or
Microsoft Live Search and take a tour through any city in the world, whenever we want.
With satellites and the human mind it seems there is no limit to what we can
achieve. Why aren’t we using this limitless technology to save ourselves? Several
Companies have developed GPS devices in phones, watches, shoes, cars and many
other things. Unfortunately, these items can be left behind, discarded or broken. Why
aren’t we able to GPS the human body? We try to keep ourselves as safe as possible. It
is not working. We are not safe from those who, in a random act decide to sacrifice a
human life to satisfy some disgusting craving. It doesn’t matter if you are White, Black,
Hispanic, Asian, wealthy, poor, middle class, young or old. We are all at risk.

“She will be fine”

Generally speaking, people are too trusting. The wonderful freedom that we all enjoy in
our life is exactly what enables these predators to thrive. Children are left alone to play,
ride their bike through a neighborhood or walk to a friend’s house. We cannot control the
way parents look after their children. Women are constantly on the go whether it be
shopping, working, exercising, etc. We cannot stop our wives, mothers, daughters or
sisters from going out alone. It is a way of life for us all. The horrible monsters that prey
on unsuspecting people do not stand out in a crowd. They are as normal in appearance
as you and I. That is why they are so successful. Our society does a great job of
notifying the world after it is too late. Why do we treat our lives with such a lazy
attitude? We treat our inanimate possessions with such care and caution. Our homes
are gated, locked and alarmed. Our cars are equipped with LoJack, OnStar and other
theft prevention devices. Yet when it comes to a human life we are helpless against our
own predators.

Calling All Movers and Shakers

We need to Prevent, Protect and Preserve. Develop a personal tracking device to
instantly locate those in need. A small ankle bracelet or an earing containing a GPS
tracker. A device that we can track through the internet via computer, phone or mobile
device anytime, anywhere in the world. Couldn’t we use this technology to send an alert
to emails, cell phones, radios, etc.? Sure it takes time and money to develop. There are
a lot of people out there with lots of time and money to help or donate to this cause.
Why isn’t this getting done? This type of solution has to be an affordable solution that is
as common as buying a computer, video gaming system, cell phone, jewelry or even a
car. We all love to spend lots of money on luxuries. How many Apple iPhones were
purchased at $600 each? Who wouldn’t give up a chunk of their salary on something
that will save a loved one’s life?

Sure, there is a personal privacy issue at hand. Should that stop the effort? Absolutely
not. Who are the people/lawmakers concerned with violating people’s privacy? Have
these people experienced the loss of a loved one at the hands of a predator? Probably
Not.

Prevent, Protect and Preserve.
